How does a person become a Board Member and are their any specific requirements?

Board of Directors are selected through an application process. Applications are available in the Administrative Offices of Citizens Health Corporation located at 1650 N. College Ave, Indianapolis, In 46202.

Citizens Health Corporation receives some of its funding from the Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA) an as such there are many regulations which Citizens Health Corporation must adhere to.  The selection of Board Members is done with an ever mindful eye of these regulations. Citizens Health Corporation governing board is comprised of persons who volunteer their time for the purpose of improving the health status of Marion County, Indiana. A majority of Board members of the Citizens Health Corporation Board of Directors must be people who receive services at any facility operated by Citizens Health Corporation.

The intent is for consumer board members to give substantive input into the health center’s strategic direction and policy.  The consumer board members at a minimum must utilize one of the facilities operated by the Citizens Health Corporation as their principal source of primary health care.  A consumer member will have used the health center services within the last two years.  A legal guardian of a consumer who is a dependent child or adult, or a legal sponsor of an immigrant, may also be considered a consumer for purposes of board representation.
HRSA also requires that no more than half of the non-consumer Board of Directors may derive more than 10% of their annual income from the health care industry.
